2018–2021
I walk daily in the hills above Wellington Harbour where the walking tracks look out over the water and the landscape is transformed by light, weather and season. Although the view is familiar no two days are ever the same. These repeated walks have deepened my connection with this place and made me consider what can be felt beyond what is seen.
In this series, I photograph seascapes digitally then re-photograph each image through coloured glass allowing light to refract onto the printed image. The light falls unpredictably, altering the original photograph and creating something that cannot be completely controlled or repeated.
The work sits between observation and imagination, between the physical landscape and the experience of being within it. Through chance and the shifting qualities of light I return to these places in another way, not simply to record what I see but to give form to something sensed beyond it.
